Sukkamestarit Oy
Sukkamestarit Oy was founded in 1995 by a group of passionate textile professionals.
The idea of establishing a new sock factory emerged for them already in the early 1990s when the markets began to shift towards faster delivery times, flexible production, and tailored services for business customers. The founding members recognized a new opportunity here and wanted to create a new kind of sock factory whose operations would be strongly based on quality, technical innovation, service, speed, and flexibility. By this time, each of them already had decades of work experience in a traditional sock factory in Tampere.
Production started in the new factory in April 1996. The factory invested in a new generation of machines and changed production methods from seasonal orders to a warehouse service system. It was important to understand global markets and specialize in new innovative products.

Production grew rapidly in the first years and in 2001 a new sock factory was opened in Ylöjärvi, near Tampere.
The larger facilities of the new factory enabled significant growth in production capacity and faster handling of shipments.
The new factory made it possible to produce up to four million pairs per year.
New steps
Ownership changes
As the founding members stepped down from the company's operations, new owners took over leadership in 2007.
All current owners have had long careers at Sukkamestarit even before they took over the company's leadership:
- Jussi Koskinen (CEO) started as a sales representative in 1997
- Jani Alatalo (product development) in 1998
- Kimmo Koskinen (production manager) in 2002
- Jani Tarkki (factory manager) in 2004.
Specializing in technical products
New brand UphillSport
Specialization and technical products have been at the core of the company from the very beginning. Collaboration with many outdoor industry brands sparked the creation of a unique brand focused on more technical products, alongside the Sukkamestarit brand.
The goal of developing the new brand was to offer consumers simply the best possible product for various sports and outdoor activities.
This is how the new outdoor brand UphillSport was born, which was registered in 2016. UphillSport is currently an international brand.
Quality requirements are rising
ISO9001:2015 certificate
We follow a quality management system in our operations that meets the requirements of the ISO9001:2015 standard.
Bureau Veritas granted our operations the certificate on 15.11.2016.
ISO 9001 is a commitment to customer focus and quality, which supports Sukkamestarit’s own value choices, where quality and the customer are at the center.
ISO 9001 certification plays a significant role in implementing sustainable business, as reducing errors saves costs and reduces waste.
Responsibility as a core value
NATIVA-certified merino wool
Sukkamestarit Oy is certified as the first sock factory in Europe in the NATIVA merino wool responsibility and traceability program. The first batch of wool arrived in production in April 2020, and since then we have switched to using only Nativa certified merino wool.
Since autumn 2020, product labels have also included a QR code, with which anyone can learn about the origin of the product's materials.
Sukkamestarit’s merino wool comes from La Magdalena farm, Salto, Uruguay.

New brand
TOEZZ Hockey -protect Your future
The new brand TOEZZ Hockey was launched in summer 2023. The brand's flagship products, cut-resistant wristbands and socks, were developed in cooperation with professional players to protect against cuts.
The products are used, among others, by the Leijonat national team.
The story behind the brand features familiar faces, as Waltteri Merelä gave his own story and voice to the importance of cut-resistant products.
Competition victories
Scandinavian Outdoor Awards - Innovation Award
At the winter 2023 ISPO fair, long-term product development was rewarded when UphillSport Repo outdoor socks won the prestigious Innovation Award.
The product's innovative structure, a new approach to materials (merino wool & Tencell), and exceptionally versatile features impressed the jury, not forgetting responsibility.

Sukkamestarit employs 40 textile professionals. All our products are made 100% with domestic labor at our own factory in Ylöjärvi.
