The acquisition strengthens Sukkamestarit's international growth opportunities and paves the way for further development of its factory in Ylöjärvi, Finland. Production will remain in Finland, and the company will retain its name and established brands. The goal is to increase Finnish sock production to three million pairs annually within the next 5–8 years.
Sukkamestarit Becomes Part of the Aclima Group
Sukkamestarit Oy, Finland's largest sock manufacturer, is being acquired by Norwegian wool specialist Aclima. The acquisition marks the beginning of a new phase of growth for Sukkamestarit, providing greater financial resources, international networks and new market opportunities to support the development of Finnish sock manufacturing.
Founded in 1996, Sukkamestarit has evolved from a traditional sock factory into an international manufacturer of specialist socks. In recent years, the company has invested in modernizing its production facilities and expanding capacity, while focusing on the development and export of technically advanced socks. Its specialist expertise is demonstrated by a major order for 750,000 pairs of socks from the Danish Armed Forces in spring 2025.
The current owners of Sukkamestarit have been seeking a strategic partner to accelerate growth and international expansion. In Aclima, they found a partner who shares their vision for long-term development and the future of Finnish manufacturing expertise. The sale of 100% of the company's shares provides a stronger foundation for future investment and growth.
"We have worked with determination for many years to develop Sukkamestarit into a manufacturer of technically advanced specialist socks. We have expanded our production capacity and entered new export markets, but there are more growth opportunities than we can pursue with our current resources. With Aclima, we gain the financial backing and resources needed for our next phase of growth, along with the opportunity to take Finnish sock manufacturing expertise to a new level," says Jussi Koskinen, CEO of Sukkamestarit.
Finnish Sock Manufacturing Remains at the Heart of Growth
Sukkamestarit will continue operating under its existing name, with production and the company's brands remaining in Finland. Product development, marketing and domestic sales will also continue in Ylöjärvi.
Aclima aims to develop the Ylöjärvi factory into an internationally recognized centre of excellence for sock product development and manufacturing. The joint growth plan aims to increase production to three million pairs of socks annually within the next 5–8 years, creating opportunities for further investment and new jobs.
"It was important for us to find a partner who understands the value of Finnish manufacturing and the expertise of our employees. This acquisition is not about moving production away from Finland, but about developing and expanding it in Ylöjärvi. We want to build on what we have achieved and secure the future of Sukkamestarit," Koskinen continues.
Combining the Strengths of Two Nordic Specialists
Founded in 1939, Aclima is a Norwegian company specializing in high-performance wool clothing, with a strong position in the outdoor and professional clothing markets. Aclima's international sales channels and brand recognition will open up new opportunities for Sukkamestarit, while Sukkamestarit brings decades of expertise in sock product development and manufacturing to the group.
Both companies have extensive experience in developing products for demanding conditions and military applications, where quality, performance and durability are essential.
"Sukkamestarit is an excellent fit for Aclima's strategy. The company's specialist expertise, manufacturing capabilities and commitment to sustainability complement our product ranges and production operations. Together, we can build a significantly stronger range of socks, strengthen our Nordic manufacturing capabilities and reinforce our position in international markets," says Christian Lodgaard, CEO of Aclima.
A Stronger Foundation for Future Growth
For Sukkamestarit, the acquisition provides an opportunity to build on the progress already made, supported by greater resources and a stronger foundation for growth. The skills and expertise of the Ylöjärvi workforce, technical know-how and Finnish manufacturing will remain the cornerstones of future development.
Together, the companies will have combined annual revenue of approximately EUR 50 million (NOK 517 million) and a total workforce of 186 employees.
"Sukkamestarit is much more than just socks. It represents 30 years of hard work, craftsmanship and shared achievements. We have overcome challenging times and built expertise that we can all be proud of today. Our new owner brings new opportunities, while we bring to this partnership what makes Sukkamestarit what it is – Finnish sock manufacturing expertise and exceptional craftsmanship," Koskinen concludes.
