Merino wool socks are knitted from yarn made from merino wool. The popularity of merino wool socks need not be far-fetched when you take a closer look at the characteristics of merino wool. Merino wool socks are warm, breathable and effectively wick moisture away from the skin, keeping feet dry and comfortable in both warm and cold weather. Merino wool socks are particularly popular for outdoor sports and outdoor activities, but are also becoming increasingly popular for everyday life- and for special occasions all year round.

Merino wool is derived from merino sheep. Merino wool for hosiery comes from Salto, a farm in La Magdalena, Uruguay. All the merino wool we use is mulesing free, plus it is NATIVA certified.

Merino lambswool is finer and softer than regular lambswool. This makes merino wool more comfortable on the skin and does not tend to cause itching, as some other wools can.

One of the main advantages of merino wool is its ability to keep you warm even when damp. This makes merino wool socks ideal especially for outdoor activities and sports, where feet can often sweat more intensely and consequently become damp easily. The fibre structure of merino wool allows moisture to move away from the skin while allowing heat to stay close to the skin, helping to keep feet dry and warm. This also prevents the formation of blisters.

Another advantage of merino wool is its ability to regulate body temperature. It is able to adapt to the ambient temperature and the temperature of the skin, thus keeping your feet comfortably warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. This makes merino wool socks versatile all year round.

In addition, merino wool is naturally antibacterial, which helps prevent odours from building up over long periods of use. This makes merino wool socks a particularly good option for long hikes or treks where washing facilities may be limited. Merino wool socks enjoy ventilation rather than excessive washing. On longer hikes, you can try rotating your socks, with some on your feet and others drying in the side of your backpack. This way you'll always have fresh socks to change at the break point.

Merino wool socks can vary in thickness, length and other characteristics, making them suitable for different uses and preferences. It is important to choose the right socks for each activity and footwear. Poor socks can easily ruin the experience of wearing even a good quality shoe if your feet get cold, the socks roll up or the socks are too thin or thick for the footwear you choose.

To make it easier for you to choose merino wool socks, we have added icons to the products to tell you more about the product. The most important icons are the length of the sock's stem, the heat rating (1-5) and the physical thickness of the sock. Please note that even a thin sock can be warm!

We will be happy to help you find the right merino wool socks for you. All our products are made with 100% Finnish labour in our own factory in Ylöjärvi.
